Over time, we found many collectors to have either no insurance coverage or inadequate polices that omit many of the most common risks to a collection.
Clients who have adequate policies are usually required to bundle homeowners coverage in order to access wine coverage. This arrangement can be costly and complex for many people, so a cingular wine product was the obvious answer.
In 2006 Cellar Advisors opened a storage facility and learned that off-site collections can be even more challenging to insure than a home cellar. Bundled with an increased demand for moving large parcels into and out of storage, the quest for proper coverage became even more urgent. Along the way we received dozens of frightening calls from clients who had suffered a catastrophic loss to all or part of their collection, further elaborating the need for a quality program.
Over a lunch with great wines, Tony Morgan of Bliss and Glennon and Cellar Advisors’ Marc Lazar agreed to turn over every rock to find affordable, flexible coverage that could be purchased and modified easily for all collectors. As a collector himself, Tony understood the needs of Cellar Advisors clients and shared our surprise that an attractive policy was not available.
